Ecobee3 Smart WiFi Thermostat doesn’t has built-in batteries, it draws power from your HVAC system’s Common wire (C-wire). If you don’t have a C-wire Ecobee provides a Power Extender Kit that connects to your furnace. The ecobee3 uses Wi-Fi to connect to the internet and other equipment.
